About Your Marriage License
Things to remember about your marriage license!
The couple is responsible for obtaining their marriage license at a Register of Deeds office prior to the ceremony.
Officiant is not responsible for obtaining the marriage license but is responsible for submitting the license back to the ROD after the ceremony.
Officiant cannot perform a wedding ceremony without a valid marriage license
You may obtain a marriage license in any county in NC and it is valid all throughout the state. (The county issuing the marriage license does not have to be the same county where the ceremony will take place as long as it is within the state of NC)
